Organizing and rearranging.

Since all our curriculum started coming in for next year I have been trying to organize my household so that things will run more smoothly next year. As you can see on my slide show I have already gotten my storage closet organized. Now it comes to the books. I have had to purchase a few new book shelves to accommodate all our books.

We also purchased a new PC for homeschooling. Our old one was so slow and ancient and my laptop is not really child friendly. Now I am waiting to get internet hooked up to it. This new internet will be a lot faster than mine.

I also purchased a management software for my computer. It will organize my lesson plans, attendance, keep up with grades and such. I have already been using it and I love it. I can print out daily and weekly lesson lists. It will hopefully cut down on the amount of paper and work I have to do.

I am going to post my final curriculum list on my side bar for next year. I hope that everything works out well for us.

Weekend is over, now back to life...

It has been so nice for the last week just doing fun stuff. No school, very little house work and having fun. Now we have to go back to real life. Poogie has ballet recital rehearsal twice this week, my mom is having some more dental work done (I have to take her), and there is tons of house work to be done. Ug! I am ready for a break. After this week we will be done with all commitments until Poogie has ballet camp this summer. I am so ready for a good break.

It rained most of the day today so our weekend came to a not so sunny end. But it allowed me to do some much needed organizing of our school supplies. I purchased some rubber totes and organized all our supplies other than our school books. I tried to upload the photos for my blog here but I am having problems getting them to upload. I was successful in loading them to my slide show above. Tell me what you think. I am getting a new Internet connection in the next week. I hope it is faster and better than this wireless mess. It is awful.

Memorial Day weekend.

The kick off to summer. We have been very busy since our return from Hilton Head. The grass needed mowing, the house needed cleaning and we haven't been home much to do anything.

Therefore today was spent mowing yards, cleaning house and doing odds and ends that needed doing. We put up the pool we got the kids. It's just one of those blow up ring pools, 18ft, but it does the job. We decided to wait on the above ground until we get our house built.

Grocery shopping was a must due to our long trip last week. I have to say I am sick of eating out after our trip. I am ready to get back on my diet and eat healthy.

Tonight has been strange for my hubby and I. For the first time in years we are home alone. Poogie is spending the night up the hill with her cousin at my SIL's and TT is spending the night with my mom. We didn't quite know what to do with ourselves. So we watch National Treasure 2 and here I am on the computer. The movie was great by the way.

Oh, and of course we went to see Indiana Jones at the movies and it was excellent. It was such a treat to watch one of my favorite characters back after all these years.

Tomorrow we will cook out and chill out.

Greetings, from Hilton Head South Carolina!

That's right we are in Hilton Head, South Carolina with my hubby. He had to come down here for work so we tagged along, and I am so glad we did.

These last two days have been full of firsts for both me and the kids. This was my first time to see the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee.
The first time I ever traveled to the state of Georgia. Atlanta was quite interesting. Here is a photo of the Atlanta skyline.
And finally my first time to see the ocean, ever. I have to say it was beautiful. I loved how soft the beaches are. We were told by several people that the beaches of SC were not worth seeing that they were rocky and terrible. We found them to be quite the opposite. Poogie and TT couldn't wait to go in. It was an awesome experience.

I will post more photos when we get home.

Happy Mother's Day!

My Mother's Day!

I had a wonderful Mother's Day. My hubby and youngin's got me a new hot pink I-Pod, pink ear buds, and a body glove holder for me to use when I work out. I was tickled Pink! I spent most of the day programming all my songs in it and downloading some of my new favorites on I-Tunes. I was then taken to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner! What a day.

Update from last week.

Last week was so busy. We had coop two days. On Tuesday after coop Poogie had to perform her ballet routine at the local festival. She was awesome of course.

Then Wednesday I was stood up by my hairstylist. I was upset, but it all turned out well. I found a girl to do my hair right down the road from me and she did an awesome job. No more driving 30 minutes to get my hair done. Yay! I got Poogie's registration forms from a new ballet school she wants to attend next year. She wants to do ballet only and this school will let her do that.

Thursday was busy also. I got my hair done. I love it! Then it was the end of the year party at coop. And of course we had ballet practice.

Finally Friday I had my big dentist appointment to have my teeth fixed. It went really smoothly. I had my two front teeth and the root canal that would not stop hurting pulled and my temporary teeth put in place. It took about 3 and a half hours, but it was worth it. I am still in shock when I look in the mirror, and then I remember that my permanent teeth will even look better. I took a before shot and will take an after this week to post. I haven't had hardly any pain just a slight ache, and no swelling.

Today I started ordering our curriculum for next year. This is what I have ordered so far.

Poogie

Bob Jones: Phonics and English, Spelling, Handwriting and Reading

Math: Math U See Alpha

Science and Social Studies with TT.

TT

Math: Math U See Epsilon

English: Editor in Chief, Easy Grammar 6, Wordsmith Apprentice

Reading: BJP and Spectrum Test prep book

History: Story of the World Volume 4 and Encyclopedia of World History

Spelling and Handwriting: BJU

Science: Horrible Science(Several books), Encyclopedia of Natural World, Spectrum Test Prep book

Update: 5/17/08
Science: I finally found a science curriculum I wanted. Thanks to one of the moms on a Cafe Mom group I found Harcourt Science, which is secular and used in the public schools. It was on a Catholic homeschool/dayschool website. I couldn't be happier. Now my search is complete.

I also purchased a computer software program to organize lesson plans, keep grades and records and pretty much do everything I have been keeping in my homeschool portfolio manually. I am really happy with my choices so far. I even got most of my BJP at 25 to 50% of used. The rest of the summer I plan on working on getting organized for the new school year.

We are still having school. Both of them need to complete their math for the year and a little reading and English. After discussing it we have decided to work until around June 1st. Take a six week break and start again in mid July. It is so hot here we can only go out to swim in the late afternoon, so we can do work in the morning. After being able to take our spring break when it was nice instead of cold and raining like the ps TT is all for starting early and taking off when it is nicer in the fall.

Sorry for the long post just a lot going on. Be Safe.

We're Back

Our weekend may have started a day late, but we had a great time anyway. We got to our destination by lunch Saturday and so my hubby took me to Jack in the Box for my tacos. I cannot describe the joy I felt with each bite.

Then he took me to a near by Michael's to scrapbooks shop. I was in heaven. Michaels carries a lot of things that our local Hobby store does not. By the time I was done it was time to find our hotel and get changed for dinner.

Dinner was unforgetable. We drove around looking for something that would satisfy both of us and finally decided to try a nice looking place called Stoney River (I believe that was the name of it). It had valet parking! I was worried that maybe this place was a little to much for us. But upon entering we found it to be gormet casual dining. The prices scared me too, but my hubby reminded me that this was my special night so I ordered filet mignot. It was delicious.

What made this dinner unforgetable was my hubby's reaction when they brought the bread to the table. It was a small basket with the towel covering up the rolls. I as I uncovered them my usually very reserved hubby said, "No, it isn't!" really loud. The waitress even came over to our table thinking something was wrong. The rolls were a kind the had loved at a place in Rockingham. They were small poppyseed deep fried rolls with cinnamon butter. To say they were delicious would have been an understatement.

We spent the rest of the evening walking around a local huge mall. I purchased a few things, but nothing too major.

Sunday we were lazy. Sleeping in, watching t.v. and just relaxing. We decided to go shopping at another mall. It was really nice. I purchased some more clothes with the last of my birthday money and even bought my hubby some clothes and cologne. We went to dinner and then returned to the room. The only thing about our weekend that was not great was that we both ended up with a small stomach bug. My hubby wasn't feeling well when we left to go but thought it was something he had eaten. It turned out that it hung around until this morning. It hit me last night.

All in all it was a great weekend and I am so greatful that I got to recharge. I missed the kids desprately. I wanted to come home last night, but I got to feeling bad and just wanted to go to sleep.

Had to postpone, but still going!

The weather caused us to postpone leaving for our trip today, but we just rescheduled for Saturday and Sunday. My hubby didn't get home from Florida until this afternoon so it was best since he was tired from his trip.

We spent the evening in the storm shelter due to tornado warnings. We actually watched a small one go down and back up several miles from us. It was an erie site.

For my actual birthday I received several phone calls from friends and family. My mom and kids took me out shopping and bought me some new jeans and then took me to lunch. It was quite a day.

My hubby sent me an e-card and the Linkin Park "What I've Done" Video on U Tube. He knows what I love, and getting a video with both Linkin Park and Shia in it was just perfect. When he came home today he brought me a pot of miniature roses. I love them, but I just hope I can keep the alive. LOL.

Well, tomorrow we are off on our holiday. I can't wait.
