New Moon is here

I can't believe it but in about 15 hours I will be sitting down to watch New Moon. I know I sound like one of those teenage girls, but I feel like on when I think of seeing some of my favorite characters on the screen. This installment also includes one of my favorite supernatural creatures, werewolves. I mean I like the vampires and all but its the werewolves I am going to see. And after a day like I have had it gives me something to look forward to.

I got a great surprise this morning while teaching Poogie her math lesson. I took a dinner mint, you know the soft melt in your mouth ones, and popped it in my mouth, bit down and crack! One of my porcelain crowns busted into several pieces. It is part of a large bridge so it isn't something that can simply be replaced. My dentist is ordering the stuff to fix it, and hopefully next week all will be right again. I sure hope so. But, until then I have Bella, Edward and of course Jacob to keep me in good spirits.

A toothache and new curriculum

I am still suffering from this horrible toothache. I can't wait until I go to the dentist tomorrow. The only way I am coping is with pain medicine and soft food to eat. I hate that I am missing out on such a beautiful weekend outside and visiting church with friends, but I am too out of it to do much of anything. That is the trade off, be in pain or loopy. I choose loopy over the blinding pain I have had the last few days.

Anywho, I took a moment to post my curriculum for next year for those of you that are interested.

For TT I have changed from my original plan. He has come so far in his math since just May we have decided to go on into pre-algebra. Since he is above level on all other subjects, we have decided to just jump into 8th grade. We shall see how it goes. He is old enough to be in 8th since I started him a year late in kindergarten, so that is not an issue. My curriculum for him is a mixture of 7th and 8th grade.

Math-Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra
Science-Apologia
History-Bob Jones
Grammar-Easy Grammar Plus & Editor in Chief
Writing-Write Shop
Literature-Various novels such as (The Outsiders, Tuck Everlasting, The Giver and Tom Sawyer)
Foreign Language-German (Mango Languages) One Semester
Computer Literacy-One Semester
P.E. -YMCA program and swim team

For Poogie, who will be in 2nd grade, my choices have been pretty easy. We have added a full history and science program this year.

Math-Saxon
Science-Bob Jones
History-Bob Jones
English-Bob Jones
Reading-Bob Jones
Spelling-Bob Jones
Handwriting-Bob Jones
P.E.-YMCA program and multiple dance classes
Typing-Spongebob Typing

So there it is. All is bought and paid for, now all I have to do it get it all organized and ready to go. That's the fun part!

Update of the week

Here is a pic of me and my wonderful dentist Dr. P and the greatest dental tech. in the world. I finally completed my long dental journey and had to take a pic to commemorate the moment. I don't look as great as I would have liked. At the time of the pic I had been in and out of the dentist chair for 6 hours, I was tired. Plus, I had the added fun of my shoulder killing me. I hope to post a better pic. My new hair style is a lot cuter than it looks here. I really like it.

As I said yesterday my hubby took me on a scrapbook shopping spree in Memphis. I purchased several types of papers that I have been wanting. The cute travel paper was the reason I went to this store in the first place. One of my scrapbooking buddies had purchased it previously and I fell in love with it.

I also bought some great embellishments and stamps that I have been wanting. My favorite was the 7 Gypsies round self-inking stamp. I have been wanting one for a while. I found some great Heidi Swapp photo corners on clearance and some cute clear stamps. All in all I was happy with my purchases and couldn't wait to start scappin today.

Now on to next week. My neck is feeling much better I may not even need to get the MRI, we will see. I hope to get back on track with school and housework too.

My dental adventure continues...

I spent 3 hours in a dental chair today and I still don't have my permanent bridge. I had to have one tooth prepped for a crown. Then I had to have several impressions made using various types of foul tasting goo. Finally, they had to make a new temporary bridge for me to have until my new permanent one comes in.

I am so ready for this to be over. I wasn't home 5 hours and my temporary bridge came loose. I fixed it to make due until I can run by tomorrow afternoon so they can put it back in better. The temporary glue just doesn't want to work for me. Plus, I can't eat anything when my teeth are like this! It makes me grouchy.

After all this the day got even better, can you believe it? Yes, I found out today that the co-op that we have been attending at the local YMCA is no longer going to be meeting. This was not something we were expecting. To put a cherry on top of the cake we prepaid to hold our spot for the fall. Now I have to go and deal with them to try and get our money back. It is a long story, but to sum it up technically the program still exists and they have a no refund policy so it may be hard to get our money back. The program may still exist but it does not include the teachers who are part of our homeschool group. Ug, what a mess.

It was so hard to come home today and tell my kids that the YMCA program was no more. They were looking so forward to it. Our area doesn't really offer that much for homeschoolers, especially physical activities like swimming and P.E. The group of kids that attended the program were great and my kids were really beginning to form great friendships. Now I have to find another outlet for both of my kids, especially TT. Poogie has ballet and friendships from other functions. TT doesn't really have any interests that gets him out and about like the Y did. He really wants to take art classes, so that is something I will look into.

Tomorrow will be better.

Where have I been??

Last week was busy getting used to having school again. Then Saturday I picked up my copy of Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer and that was it. I read every single extra minute I could. I mean I did take my hubby shopping Saturday to pick out a gift for his birthday this week, but after several hours and many stores he couldn't find anything. We are thinking of going to Memphis this weekend to hopefully find something.

I finished Breaking Dawn last night after 11 p.m. It was exciting and sad because Meyer says it is the last in her Twilight series of books. I am happy to know how it ends but I have the same feeling I had after reading the last Harry Potter book, I will miss my friends. That is how I feel about my favorite characters in books, they are my friends.

I have also been reading alot about Ann Boleyn. I watch the movie, The Other Boleyn Girl, a few weeks ago and found it rather interesting. So I picked up the book at the library along with a biography about Ann. The book was much better than the movie. Today I picked up a book by Julia Fox, Jane Boleyn: The True Story of the Infamous Lady Rochford. She was the wife of Ann's brother, George.

I have a habit of doing this. I find something interesting in a movie or online and I have to read everything I can find about it. My family finds it odd I think, but I love to learn about new things. I especially like to learn about history. I hope someday my children have a love for knowledge like mine.

Anywho, Poogie had to have two of her baby teeth pulled that were crowding her permanent teeth on Monday. She went through it great. The dentist thought she might be sore and have some swelling because the baby teeth had rather deep roots, but she didn't have a lick of trouble. I am glad she is a lot like me in the area healing well when it comes to dental issues. She also manages pain much better than her brother. I was so proud of how well she did during the ordeal.

Well, tomorrow is my day at the dentist. Hopefully by this time next week my dental issues will be over for a while. We'll see.

My dental appointment.

Well, I do not completely have my new teeth. What I have is my new teeth minus one crown because it didn't fit right.

What happened was this. After having my temporaries glued in twice last week, they had to use permanent cement instead of temporary. Today went they went to remove the temps it broke one of my root canals and the crown would not fit it correctly. So now what I have are my new teeth as temporaries. They will remake my crowns to fit better and rebuild my root canal. This will all occur in two weeks.

I was so ready to just be done with all this but that was not meant to be. It does feel nice to have my new teeth. They are so smooth and pretty. So now I will wait yet another two weeks to do it all over again.

Plus, TT didn't want to go with me today so I didn't get to go out for sushi afterwards. I didn't want to eat alone so I just got some fast food and came on home. I hope to get some this weekend though. Once I get a craving for it I have to have some sushi.

Day 3 Much Better!

After my first day meltdown I rearranged a few things and it is going much better. Yesterday we even took a trip to our local library to pick up books to go along with our science topic, cells.

I worked with Poogie first yesterday and then TT. Today I did the opposite. I think I will have to start with TT and then work with Poogie while he is doing independent work. He just has so much more to do and yesterday he didn't finish until around 2:30. That is late for us.

Today went well. The only downside was that the phone rung every ten minutes. Mostly my mom called and it is really distracting to the kids. If I don't answer she just comes over since she lives next door. Today she needed my help because she was getting cable hooked up, but it is always something. I was planning on using a system of colored pages hanging on my door. If the red sheet is up we are working, do not disturb. If green is up come on over.

Our situation is really hard because I live next door to both my widowed mother and father in law. They are both elderly and demand a lot of time. I have been trying to get my mom involved in activities at the local senior citizens center. They would come and get her and everything (she doesn't drive). But no she would rather I entertain her. Which is fine but I feel very overwhelmed right now and fear I will have a major meltdown if this year continues like last year did.

Anywho, tomorrow I get my permanent choppers. I want to take pics and post the before and after on my blog. Hmm, I might even make a sushi run after my appointment. That sounds so yummy right now.

My sinuses have been going crazy and they have taken over my taste buds. I can't really taste anything that isn't spicy. So of course I want to eat unhealthy things. I haven't gained any more weight but I haven't lost any either. Only 5 more pounds and I will have reached my goal. Darn sinuses.

Getting ready for the new school year

I have been working all week to get prepared to start school next Monday. I am still working on it. This week has not turned out like I had planned, but then what week does. I had hoped to have Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to stay at home to work on all my stuff, but that did not happen.

Monday I had to go to the dentist to have my final impression done for my permanent teeth. All went well or so I thought. Tuesday I noticed that something was amiss with my bridge, it was loose. So I had to make another trip to the dentist to have it glued in again. Then, yesterday I finally got to go to my stylist to get my hair cut and colored. I felt so much better. But low and behold my bridge worked loose again. I returned today to get it glued in again. The tech was there that did the initial bridge and I believe this one will last until next Thursday when I get my permanent one. Here's hoping.

Since I had to make another trip I took TT along and we made a quick stop at our favorite sushi restaurant. That is one of the things TT and I do just the two of us. We enjoyed our Mexican roll tremendously.

I returned home and contemplated working on school stuff, but ended up just playing hooky. I plan on finalizing everything tomorrow. I am trying to get ahead planning for several weeks so that I have some time to breathe this year. I don't think we will take such a long break next year. It is just too hard to start back up again.

I am feelin' Lucky..

Jeans that is. I finally had to get out all my favorite jeans and clothes that I had gotten way to big for this weekend because I didn't have anything to wear. My regular jeans were hanging way down on my hips and most I could pull on and off with them buttoned and zippered.

So I get out my favorite Hydraulic and Lucky jeans and YaHOO! I could fit in them. Some of my favorite stuff was even a little big for me. Just imagine a happy dance right now. That was what I was doing all day Sunday. I haven't been able to wear some of these jeans since I graduated college in '05. And they are all still stylish thank goodness.

I went shopping today while Poogie was at ballet dance camp. I went to my favorite store in the mall and was so happy to find I can now fit in their clothes and look good too. I purchased some cute shorts and tees on clearance. Now all I have to do is loose those last 5 pounds and I get to purchase my reward, a new pair of Lucky Jeans I have been eyeing for months.

I also have to make a final decision about what kind of smile that I want when I bet my permanent bridge. I have been looking forever for the perfect smile. The problem is what is perfect to me is hard to find. I don't want perfectly straight, false looking teeth. I want a natural looking smile. I think I will hit the bookstore tomorrow and check out a few more smiles in the magazines before I make my final selection.

Happy Mother's Day!

My Mother's Day!

I had a wonderful Mother's Day. My hubby and youngin's got me a new hot pink I-Pod, pink ear buds, and a body glove holder for me to use when I work out. I was tickled Pink! I spent most of the day programming all my songs in it and downloading some of my new favorites on I-Tunes. I was then taken to our favorite Mexican restaurant for dinner! What a day.

Update from last week.

Last week was so busy. We had coop two days. On Tuesday after coop Poogie had to perform her ballet routine at the local festival. She was awesome of course.

Then Wednesday I was stood up by my hairstylist. I was upset, but it all turned out well. I found a girl to do my hair right down the road from me and she did an awesome job. No more driving 30 minutes to get my hair done. Yay! I got Poogie's registration forms from a new ballet school she wants to attend next year. She wants to do ballet only and this school will let her do that.

Thursday was busy also. I got my hair done. I love it! Then it was the end of the year party at coop. And of course we had ballet practice.

Finally Friday I had my big dentist appointment to have my teeth fixed. It went really smoothly. I had my two front teeth and the root canal that would not stop hurting pulled and my temporary teeth put in place. It took about 3 and a half hours, but it was worth it. I am still in shock when I look in the mirror, and then I remember that my permanent teeth will even look better. I took a before shot and will take an after this week to post. I haven't had hardly any pain just a slight ache, and no swelling.

Today I started ordering our curriculum for next year. This is what I have ordered so far.

Poogie

Bob Jones: Phonics and English, Spelling, Handwriting and Reading

Math: Math U See Alpha

Science and Social Studies with TT.

TT

Math: Math U See Epsilon

English: Editor in Chief, Easy Grammar 6, Wordsmith Apprentice

Reading: BJP and Spectrum Test prep book

History: Story of the World Volume 4 and Encyclopedia of World History

Spelling and Handwriting: BJU

Science: Horrible Science(Several books), Encyclopedia of Natural World, Spectrum Test Prep book

Update: 5/17/08
Science: I finally found a science curriculum I wanted. Thanks to one of the moms on a Cafe Mom group I found Harcourt Science, which is secular and used in the public schools. It was on a Catholic homeschool/dayschool website. I couldn't be happier. Now my search is complete.

I also purchased a computer software program to organize lesson plans, keep grades and records and pretty much do everything I have been keeping in my homeschool portfolio manually. I am really happy with my choices so far. I even got most of my BJP at 25 to 50% of used. The rest of the summer I plan on working on getting organized for the new school year.

We are still having school. Both of them need to complete their math for the year and a little reading and English. After discussing it we have decided to work until around June 1st. Take a six week break and start again in mid July. It is so hot here we can only go out to swim in the late afternoon, so we can do work in the morning. After being able to take our spring break when it was nice instead of cold and raining like the ps TT is all for starting early and taking off when it is nicer in the fall.

Sorry for the long post just a lot going on. Be Safe.

An Encouraging Moment.

I thought today was going to end up being pretty rough. I was up most of the night with a tooth ache. I was not happy, especially because this tooth isn't suppose to ache at all. I got a root canal in it several months ago and every time my sinus acts up it gets inflamed and throbs. I called my dentist and have to call again tomorrow to see if they can work me in. It hurt bad enough I can't eat anything I have to chew. This happened once before I after antibiotics and pain pills it went away but I don't think that a root canal should hurt like this.

Anywho, my moment happened tonight while I was at Wally World with my family. My son and I ran into his first grade teacher. Now, we were crazy about her. She was so sweet and TT learned so much with her. She asked how we were doing and TT told her all about the Grinch unit we were doing including the cave lapbook. She was truly interested and so supportive.

Well, I have to say all of this was a shock to me. I have known this lady for 5 years and I know she was very sincere in her praise and support. It just came from a very unexpected place. Up until now most of my ps teacher friends have not been very supportive of my choice to homeschool. But it was so encouraging, and I thank her for that.

On another note, I had the first person to quiz my child tonight. A lady at my daughter's dance class told her granddaughter that Poogie was homeschooled. Then she started quizzing Poogie about stuff. I was a little shocked. Poogie just kind of looked at her and after the first question she quit answering. I didn't ask her to respond and finally the lady got the hint. I guess this was an evening of firsts!

Thank God for my Dentist!

I went to my dentist appointment today expecting bad news. My teeth are like a really bad train wreck. I have a space in my front teeth due to not having my two latteral incisors. I was born without them. I never had braces because in my teens it didn't really bother me. But as I have gotten older it has really began to make me self conscious.

So I go to my new dentist and he tells me what I already know, my teeth need a lot of work. Fillings, Root Canals, etc. But then when we discuss my front teeth he tells me that there are other options other than braces. I have seen these options on the Discovery Health channel but my former dentist didn't want to do it that way, he wanted to charge me $9500 dollars to fix it. So my new option cost one-third of it and will give me a much prettier smile. I can't wait. I am going to post my before and afters on the site.

I have to say it was a very emotional moment when he told me that my teeth were fixable. I had tears in my eyes. I really wanted to just jump out of the chair and hug him. I restrained myself, but I don't know if I will be able to do that when I see my new smile for the first time.

On another note, today was suppose to be our first day of school. That is what is so great about homeschool, you just go with the flow. Tomorrow will be the first day. I will let you know how we fair.

I am falling apart, literally!

Okay, I'm not that old, but some days I feel like I am falling apart. This past Wednesday morning I was making my bed and strained to pull our overly large comforter up from the foot of the bed and BAM I pinched a nerve in my back. I haven't been moving much since then. On top of that I have a tooth that is broken and has now decided to swell up and cause me even more pain.

I made a dentist appointment to take care of the tooth. I just dread it because my teeth need so much work and even with insurance I always hate to hear the total amount when they give it to me. As for my back the last time this happened my dh took me to a local acute care clinic and they gave me a sleep aide. The doc wouldn't give me anything for my pain just said to get a good night sleep and the pain would be gone. Well, I hate to tell him but it didn't go away. You could have knocked me out with a baseball bat and the pain would be there in the morning. The way it seems to work is it just goes away BAM like it comes.

Maybe tomorrow I will wake up and be put back together! Lets hope!
