It seems like we just finished The Nutcracker and here we are again at the Civic Center getting ready to do Cinderella. T had his first rehearsal in the CC today. He has been dancing almost every day for weeks and today marks the count down to Friday's opening show.
He has been added in Act 1 as a mouse that pulls Cinderella's carriage. So now we have to be at not only Act 2 rehearsal but Act 1 also. He is on stage so much in Act 2. That act takes place at the ball, and he is a lord that dances with the ladies at the ball. I was really proud of how calm and focused he was on the stage. I sat there thinking I would have never thought I would be here watching him up on that stage, Poogie yes, but not T. But I am so glad he has tried something new. He loves it. This has been a great learning experience for him. This week will be long and tiring but when the curtain goes up Friday it will be so worth it.

School and sickness
Poogie is still sick. After another night of vomiting, dry heaves and muscle spasms we went to the doctor. Tested her for H1M1 and strep, negative. The doctor thinks it may just be a stomach bug. But she said that if it goes into next week we need to come back to test for other things including Salmonella. Ug. She did give her some meds for the cramps and pain. It seems to be working thank goodness. She has had a horrible few days. She is not much of a crier or whiner but she has really broken down with this pain.
As far as school goes, Poogie isn't doing any. T is back to his regular pace. We have added some new subjects and made some changes. First, he was moving through Easy Grammar Plus so fast I decided to add something more challenging. I purchased a used set of Rod and Staff English for him. I love R & S, him not so much. But it is challenging and I know he needs more challenge. I also purchased Word Wise 3000 for him. We were working on vocabulary with his reading but I felt he needed more.
We are also working through all the Key to... Percentages, Fractions and Decimals in a certain order to hopefully get the most from the series. After hitting a wall in a few chapters of Teaching Textbooks I decided to step back and make sure he has a real grasp of the material before moving on.
After 3 nights of almost no sleep I need to rest while Poogie is finally resting, so bye till later.

Whew what a few weeks.
The last few weeks have been horrible. And to top that off Poogie has come down with a stomach virus, we think. She began feeling poorly Saturday night and Sunday morning. By Sunday afternoon she had diarrhea and horrible stomach cramps. Then that night the vomiting started. She ended up having the dry heaves all night. I hate it when my kids are sick like this, you feel so helpless.
She finally got to feeling a little better tonight. I'm hoping it will be gone by tomorrow, though she is still running a fever. T has rehearsal tomorrow. I just hope I don't get it too. With all the stress I have been under I don't think my body would welcome being sick too. I was hoping to get back to regular school work today, but toss that idea. T did do his work, along with his new stuff which I will talk about in my next post. For now I am tired from no sleep, so good nite all.

Back to blogging.
Now that facebook has lost its appeal to me I hope to get back to blogging regularly again. With T not swimming and Cinderella over at the end of March I hope to have some time on my hands. At least a little. I want to get back to blogging about homeschooling and our journey. We have gotten so caught up in extra curricular junk that we were having a hard time even fitting school in.
I hope T can return to swim later in the summer. But if he doesn't that is fine too. He is loving dance and wants to take lots of classes next fall so it would have been hard to do both and do them well.
He is happy and excited about dancing. He is so much more confident in his abilities. He knows he will always have to face being called names for being a dancer, especially in ballet, but he says it worth it. I am really sick and tired of the gay thing. I mean come on people, football players take ballet. It is a physically demanding activity. I do not want my kids lives to be defined by sexual stereotypes. I was raised in a house in which my dad loved to cook and could sew better than my mom. Was he gay, um no. Was he a great dad, yes. If Poogie wanted to do a "guy" thing like auto mechanics or build transformers like her dad I would think that is awesome. It is okay to let your kids try new things. Don't worry so much about what other people say, just try it. You never know what will happen.
