My daughter read her first words today, heck her first Book today! First of all before I tell the whole story I must say I was so excited for her. I feel so blessed being there today.
Okay, we started school like every other day. The first two weeks have been trying with Poogie because she just isn't really interested in doing the phonics workbook I got her. So we started to today with a new sound and I could tell she really wasn't happy. We took a break read her Bible story and colored the picture that goes with it. Just on a whim I took out my How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Lessons and we tried the first lesson. Wow! She loved it and was so excited about actually saying words. So I took our her Bob Books and we began reading the first one together. Using the techniques in the 100 Lessons book she was able to sound out and read her first word on her own. We all cheered, she beamed like she was Miss America. Well, she didn't stop there the next thing I knew she read the whole book.
And to think just an hour before I was thinking maybe I should put the kids back in school next year. (TT and I were not having a good day). But all it took was that one word and I know I wouldn't have wanted to miss that for the world.
I am also excited that my family and I will also be moving toward a new lifestyle. I have been reading and researching the benefits of eating a whole food diet. I have been chronically sick for almost 9 years now. I have been to doctor after doctor for my chronic sinus, IBS, and overall feeling of constant fatigue. The give you some "wonder" drug and send you on the way. Well, the drugs aren't working so I'm going to try to heal my body by taking care of it naturally. My family is all for it, the miss the old me. So wish me luck, I'll need it to give up my caffeine and sugar!

Isn't teaching them to read the greatest. At home we get to experience all the first with them, it is so wonderful. Best of luck on the new whole food way of life. I ditched caffiene nine years ago, just that makes a big difference. I gave up sugar too while I was pregnant last time, but I picked that bad habit back up. I need to cut down or out completly. Keep us updated on your progress.
Be blessed,
Chasity
